Braemar Highland Games (Braemar, Scotland)
Gatherings at Braemar have been going on for 900 years, and today has become Scotland's best attended Highland Games. This cultural and sporting family event features highland dancers, pipe bands, the tossing of the caber, the tug of war, and much more. To fully enjoy the atmosphere of the games, it is recommened that visitors stay for the whole weekend.
Egremont Crab Fair Festival (Egremont, Cumbria)
Set up in 1267, the Eregmont Crab Fair is one of the world's oldest events. Combining ancient traditions with modern attractions, the fair attracts visitors from around the globe. Spend that enjoying fabulous displays, joining in sporting events, watching the apple cart parade, or even join in with the evening gurning competition (see photo above)!
World Stone Skimming Championships (Argyll, Scotland)
Based only 20 minutes South of Oban, the Stone Skimming Championships is great for a fun day out. Everyone can join in as children, women, men, and team categories are all available. The night before the event, there is a pre-skim warm up party in the Easdale Island Community Hall where there is a liscensed bar and live music.
Matchmaking Festival (Lisdoonvarna, Ireland)
The Lisdoonvarna Matchmaking Festival is a month long festival of music, dancing and entertainment. Matchmaking is one of Ireland's oldest traditions, so this one of a kind festival is a great place to meet new people. Both gay and straight communities are welcome to come and join in the fun.
Reeperbahn Festival (Hamburg, Germany)
The Reepherbahn Festival is both Germany's largest club festival and an important meeting place for music and digital industries. The festival offers a huge variety, with roughly 600 events taking place in over 70 unique venues. Performing acts include indie, pop, folk, singer-songwriter, electro, hip hop, soul, jazz and contemporary.
Oktoberfest (Munich, Germany)
Beer Heaven for those that love the amber fluid. Drink the best tasting beer, sing along with a band, eat hearty food and then try not to throw up on an amusement ride afterwards. There is a reason a million people visit Oktoberfest over its three weeks and that is because it is simply great fun.
