World's Biggest Liar (Stanton Bridge Inn, Holmrook, Cumbria)
Every year the World's Biggest Liar Competition is held at The Bridge Inn in Stanton. Each competitor has five minutes to tell the most convincing and biggest lie. Each ticket also includes a tattie pot supper.
Tar Barrels (Ottery St Mary, Devon)
This centuary old tradition is rumoured to have started after the gunpowder plot of 1605. Every year there are torchlight processions and fireworks in Ottery, followed by the highlight of burning tar barrels being carried through the town. Be sure to read the page on safety before attending.
Lewes Bonfire Night (Lewes, East Sussex)
The Lewes Bonfire Night is the biggest 5th November celebration in the world. In Lewes there are six societies, each of which organise their own processions, traditions, costumes, fire sites and fireworks throughout the town. Due to the populatity of the event, be sure to buy your tickets and arrange your travel inadvance. Unfortunately the event is not suitable for small children.

Santa Claus World Championship (Samnaun, Switzerland)
Marking the opening of the winter season at Samaun ski resort, hundreds of people dressed as Santa Claus dash through the snow. This 'CauWau' party (as it is known) includes gingerbread decorating, chimney climbing, sleigh driving and, most importantly, the best St. Nicholas competition (for over 18s only).
