The Championships started when a lock keeper noticed walkers frequently recreating Winnie the Pooh's favourite pastime; Pooh Sticks. Racing sticks under a bridge down the River Thames has become such a popular event that it was voted Britain's favourite quirky event, and attracts up to 1,500 people locally, nationally and worldwide.
