Hampton Court Palace is a splendorous royal home that belongs in a fairy tale and has many stories to be told, particularly given the prominence of King Henry VIII and his 6 wives in its history. It is also the home to an ice rink during winter and a famous flower show during the summer. 

Things you should know

  • Getting there: You need to catch a train from either Waterloo or Wimbledon to Hampton Court Station. Trains run approximately every 30 minutes to Hampton Court Station

Money Saving Tips

  • A London Pass represents value if you have a 10 day pass. If combining with one of Wimbledon (£33.90 good value with 6 day pass), Twickenham Stadium (£45.90 good value with a 3 day pass) or Kew Gardens (£37.90 good value with 6 day pass)  

Suggested Itinerary Tips with your visit to Hampton Court Palace

  • Hampton Court Palace and Wimbledon: Visit the home of tennis before or after your trip to Hampton Court by catching the tube to/from Southfields by changing at Wimbledon station.
  • Hampton Court Palace, Twickenham Stadium and Richmond: Rugby fans will want to do the Twickenham experience. See details further below. An evening enjoying Richmond by the river is a great way to end the day.
  • Hampton Court Palace and Richmond: Richmond is home to arguably the most picturesque part of the Thames, there is also some wonderful High Street shops.
  • Hampton Court Palace and Kew Gardens: Once you have been inspired by the wonderful gardens and Hampton Court be further inspired by those in Kew.

Hampton Court Palace (only)

Just Visiting Hampton Court Palace. Catch train from Waterloo or Wimbledon to Hampton Court Station

Hampton Court Palace and Tour the All England Tennis Club the home of the famous Wimbledon.

To visit the All England Tennis Club (Wimbledon) change at Wimbledon station and catch the tube to Southfields on the District line.

Hampton Court Palace, Twickenham Stadium and Richmond

Visit Hampton Court Palace in the morning, catch the R68 (from near the Hampton Court station) towards Kew Retail Park and Richmond.

For Twickenham Stadium

Get off at York Street in Twickenham. Walk up London Rd passed the Twickenham train station and turn left down Whitton Road following it all the way until you reach the stadium. See Map Below

Notes:

A= York Street, Twickenham Bus Stop; B= Twickenham Stadium; C= Twickenham Station (Catch trains to Waterloo, Richmond is 1-2 stops depending on the train)

From Twickenham Stadium walk back to Twickenham Station and catch the train to Richmond Station. Have dinner at a bar or restaurant along the picturesque Thames.

**** The walk between A/G Richmond Station and B Steins Bavarian Beer Garden are High Street Shops!

Hampton Court to Richmond

Catch the R68 from Hampton Court Palace to the Cresswell Road stop, Get off and keep walking in the same direction as the bus. You will cross the Bridge. Enjoy a relaxing drink/food on the Thames and walk back towards Richmond Station via the Richmond Green.

**** At Richmond Station catch the train back towards London. The Overground trains goes to Waterloo the Underground trains are on the District Line (Earls Court)

Hampton Court, Kew Gardens (Richmond in the evening)

Visit Hampton Court in the morning. Catch the R68 all the way to Kew Retail Park. Walk from Kew Retail Park to Kew Gardens. After Kew Gardens catch the train back to Richmond and spend the evening drinking or dining by the River.

A= Kew Retail Park (where you disembark on the R68 bus); B= Kew Gardens (about a 20 minute walk) C= Kew Gardens Station (catch District line back to London via Earls Court or catch it back to Richmond  (Refer to the Richmond Station/River map further up above)
