How to get your pet/animal fix in London

Missing your furry friend back home is an experience many feel when relocating to London. Your pets back home are irreplaceable, however there are ways of getting a pet fix, here's how...

In need of a dog fix?

London loves dogs you only need to go to most pubs to see the dog treats in the corner to understand the appreciation the British have for our four legged friends.  Visiting a pub or park is one way of getting a small dog fix but the best way can be to dog sit for someone you may also make some extra money doing so. Some apps that can be worth registering with are Dog BuddyPawshake and Borrow my Doggy.

Foster a dog (provided your landlord is agreeable) through the Battersea Dogs Home. Warning a visit to one of their homes may bring a tear to your eye..

Dog lovers should put the world famous Crufts dog show on their bucket list,  held annually at the NEC in Birmingham in March, if there is every a reason to visit Birmingham this is it. If you can't make it to Crufts than put a date in your calendar for the Discover Dogs Exhibition in October.

In need of a cat fix?

The best way to hear the purr of a cat is to grab a coffee at one of London's Cat Cafes these being Lady Dinah's Cat Emporium (Bethnal Green), This is a Coffee Shop (Shoreditch).

You can also earn some extra cash by becoming a cat sitter with the London Cat Sitting Company.

A slightly different option is to get former British MP George Galloway to pretend he is a cat something he did on Celebrity Big Brother. Politicians really will do anything for a vote.

Looking for a place to horse around?

The benefit of London being a city of some amazing parks is that those who love horse riding are well catered for. Some of the places you can go horse riding in London include Hyde Park, Wimbledon Common, Richmond Park, Lea Valley, Kingston, Mottingham Farm and the London Equestrian Centre (Finchley).

Miss your pet chicken, goat, tortoise or llama?

London maybe a large urban metropolis but it is home to many city farms there to introduce many children in London who may not have seen a sheep before!

To get an animal fix at a city farm try Vauxhall City Farm, Spitalfields City Farm, Kentish Town City Farm, Stepney City Farm and Cafe (Hackney), Oasis Farm (Waterloo), Belmont Children's Farm (Mill Hill), Mudchute Park and Farm or Deen City Farm (Wimbledon).
